Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) now tops the Men's Division One National Volleyball League with 22 points after a gruelling four-day second-leg competition concluded on Sunday at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani (MISC), edging Prisons Kenya by one point. The leg also saw defending champions General Service Unit (GSU) struggle significantly.
The Mombasa County-based Dockers lead the standings with seven wins from eight matches, the same number of victories as Prisons Kenya, who had entered the second leg at the top of the table.
This has now set up a fierce and closely contested two-horse title race, with KPA on 22 points and Prisons on 21.
Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) remain within reach despite dropping two points. They sit third on the log with 17 points, while the rising Chema Volleyball Club from Juja have slipped to fourth place with 15 points.
Equity Bank are fifth with 12 points, while Trailblazers and KAPU both have nine points, sitting sixth and seventh respectively.
However, the biggest surprise has been defending champions GSU, who sit 12th on the table with only six points, uncomfortably close to the relegation zone.
At the bottom of the standings are National Youth Service (NYS), Prisons Rift Valley and Prisons Western, placed 13th, 14th and 15th, respectively.
The trio face the real threat of relegation unless they improve their performance in the next leg.
